Georgia has 159 counties—more than any other state east of the Mississippi River. The state generally leans to the right. However, their voter base is often split right down the middle, which chalks up to some pretty close races. Both of Georgia’s incumbent Senators face well-funded challengers, so keep a close eye this November. Fun Fact: Georgia also had a "three governors controversy" from 1946 to 1947. Their governor-elect, Eugene Talmadge, died before stepping into office. The General Assembly elected his son to replace him, while the newly elected lieutenant governor and outgoing governor both refused to give up the seat. So they had three governors for a while!
